Almost six out of 10 small-business owners are working more hours this year than they did last year, according to a survey released today by Manta, an online community for small businesses.
In fact, almost half are working so hard, they won’t have time to take a vacation, according to the online survey of about 1,200 owners.
However, they don’t plan to have employees step up so they can take time off: 70% do not plan to hire any new employees during the summer months, compared to 43% who had no hiring plans in 2011.
“The current economic conditions are putting a strain on all businesses, particularly small and mid-sized businesses, that often times need to do more with less,” said Manta CEO Pamela Springer.
In separate research by the Corporate Executive Board, one-third of self-employed persons said they work more than 50 hours per week.
